Blog 9+10 - Casey Delia
The Parthenon is something that every time it's brought up in any class, I'm almost instantly intrigued. The acropolis that it's part of and the approach to this massive temple is just a small part to the overall beauty it holds. I've always been interested in things that tell a deeper story behind something that may seem simple or meaningless. From the entasis in the columns to the metopes which tell stories of ancient Greek wars and battles all come together to create something that is recognized by many people. On top of the little details that were put into it, the Parthenon as a whole expresses a sense of monumentality that reminds people of the glorious past of the Greek civilization. Legend says that if you look closely at one of the more famously studied metopes you can see fellow classmate Paul Woodworth slaying a mythical beast. I could be mistaken though.
