Ashley Bressette Blog 4

Upon arrival at the Mary Baker Eddy Library it is evident that certain architectural elements mimic the ideas of ancient Hindu and Buddhist architecture. Walking towards the library it is hard to miss the gateway leading its pedestrians to the building’s entrance. The gateway is free standing and serves as a marker similar to the way the gateway at Sanchi does. This toranas, otherwise known as a stone gateway is heavily decorated and marks where the sacred site of Sanchi begins; upon passing through the stone gate. This gate is spiritually tied to the culture and rituals of the time. Although I do not believe that the Mary Baker Library stone gate is spiritually connected to anything for that matter, its enriching architectural qualities are able to catch any wandering eye.
