Carli Cabana- Blog 3

Whenever I go to the MFA, I love looking not only at the paintings but also at the artifacts; especially the architectural artifacts. I found this Corinthian capital. It really made me think of Italian and Greek columns and how there are three different types of capitals (Corinthian, Doric and Ionic). The Pantheon uses granite Corinthian capitals on the front eight columns and the two groups of four interior columns. The Corinthian capital found in the MFA has two tiers of acanthus leaves and a central stem that supports a flower. It is probably from Carrara, Italy.
