Nathan Neff Blog 3

While visiting the Museum of Fine Arts I was able to make a connection to what we learned in lecture with an artifact that caught my eye. There was an artifact of a man one an animal. The man was wearing tribal clothing, looks like he is from some tribe in South America. Throughout the lectures one thing seemed to be very consistent in many cultures, the interaction of man and animals. The Egyptians fused the man with the animals for most of their gods and guardians. The caves found a long time ago gave evidence of human rituals that took place with animals. In South America people worshiped animals. The Jaguar was a critical god to them the priest dressed up like one during a ritual. The one in this statue at the M.F.A. is riding an animal most likely this statue is a carving of a god to the people in that area. The relation between animals and humans is strongly represented in most architecture, which shows importance of that relation to the people of that time and in some cases the building.
