Jake Porter: Blog Response 3
When I was walking through the MFA yesterday I was particularly walking around the Egyptian section because I love the history of their civilization. I walked around a couple times and each time I did, I stopped at this stone etching of a lion. While it seems to be a work of a more modern time it still has significant relations to that of ancient Egypt. In ancient Egypt stone carvings were etched out to make stories along the walls. Stories may show how the pyramids were built, they showed pharaohs being worshipped, and also had depictions of animal heads on human bodies. Not only did the creations just have pictures telling stories but there is also text written in hieroglyphics with the carvings. It just goes to show you how visual this civilization was and how much it focused on documenting stories by placing them on walls. The past has left us many stories to be told, read, and seen; and perhaps no ancient civilization executed that better than ancient Egyptians.
