This vase depicts a symposium, or a drinking party and social gathering. According to its description, it may have been made by a Greek artist for the Etruscans. We recently learned about the relationship between Etruscan temples (at Veii) and Greek temples (Parthenon). The Greeks had symposia at the Acropolis, where they drank and talked about what love is. Although Etruscan temples such as the Temple at Veii are more enclosed and are only approachable from the front (unlike the Acropolis), the Etruscans also celebrated there through symposia. The temples were seen as places for gathering and socializing. The vase demonstrates a time where socializing, conversation, and drinking were of importance.
