When I went to the MFA, I saw a ceramic Greek drinking cup. It was broken, but the pieces had been reassembled so that you could see the image etched into it. The image symbolized the Greek story of Theseus and the Minotaur. In class, we learned about how Queen Pasiphae gave birth to the minotaur, and the creature started destroying the city. They put the minotaur in a labyrinth to keep it away from the city. Many men entered the labyrinth to try and slay the minotaur, but no one was ever successful, and they could never find their way out. Finally, with the help of Ariadne, Theseus defeated the minotaur and found his way out of the labyrinth.
