Blog 8 - Nicholas Torres

Part of the beauty of the John Hancock Tower is the fact that it was designed to blend in with the sky. There is no other decoration in the tower except for the massive slabs of glass. Not only does it blend with the sky, but also it blends with the existing topology at its base by reflecting it, case in point Trinity Church. It is as if this nearly 800-foot tower does not even exist. It was designed to literally meet the sky not at a definite end, but extend into nothingness, with no clear edges unless you are directly looking for them. You can see as the building goes up, the lighter and more it blends in with the light sky while towards the bottom it begins to blend with the darker buildings and alleyways.
