Gregory Gaffney #8
If you head towards Long Wharf in Boston by cutting through Quincy Market, you will most likely pass the greenspace dedicated to the Islands of Massachusetts. It's not much of a dedication, but the roof system of the structure is something to note. The roof, formed of cement, starts as a slight concave and over the span, becomes this drastic pinch at the end. This pinch then points to the next roof which does the same thing. This structure, while amazing in its graceful construction, has the quality of how a crashing wave tends to funnel towards one end. In a space designed to point out the significance of the Islands, the roof construction mimics the property of a wave, bring the space full circle communicating about both land and water.
