Elizan McLean: Blog Response 6
There isn't really one book or any book that directly inspires my architecture. I view my life and as a result my architecture as a collection of every experience and interaction I have had thus far and to single out a portion of that is to distort it. However, that being said, one book that has helped shaped my life is Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse. Two of the big ideas that I got from reading this was balance is the key to life and the final destination isn't as important as the journey itself. Most things in this world, including architecture is subjective, what one person might see as a beautiful building another my find it equally distasteful, the best we can do, in my opinion, is to try and make sure the building meets the needs of the client and the people that are using it, while trying to make it aesthetically pleasing, keeping in mind that not everyone will agree on what a good building looks like.
