Jake Porter: Blog Response 6
I recently read Makeshift Metropolis for one of my other classes and it really has helped to clear my thinking about architecture and inspire me. At first I was kind of hesitant about the book but I really grew to like it and it has really helped me out a lot for inspiration and clearing my mind. The book focuses on the ways to make cities both aesthetically pleasing and easily accessible and focuses largely on major cities that were established in the 18th. and 19th centuries. In that, it began to help me think on making the best possible space for people to both occupy and enjoy. While I am not designing an entire city or extended region of land it does help when I am trying to figure out a way to make my work better. If I am struggling to think of an idea I usually just remind myself of this book and begin to think of ways I can improve how my designs are.
