The bus stop at Kenmore Square is a great example of how structure and light affect one another successfully. During the day the sun shines through the glazing of the terminal directly onto the steel members that make up the structure of the bus stop. The truss like system is what molds the curved wall of glazing. Long, dark shadows are protruded onto the ground at various angles mirroring the image of the truss onto the pavement. At night when direct light is not present, the streetlights help to illuminate the bus stop. The combination of glazing and steel bounce and reflect the light, maximizing the total brightness of the space. What is achieved here appears to be a glowing effect, the terminal glowing in the surrounding darkness making it a functional, aesthetically pleasing, and easily findable space.
