Nick English Blog #6 Response

The Poetics of Space by Gaston Bachelard is a phenomenal book about phenomenological architecture.  When I first discovered phenomenology and how it played a role in architecture, I was given this book by a professor and advised to read it.  It is a wonderful guide towards comprehending space on more than just a singular aspect.  In my daily life, it has really helped me in my studio design concepts.  It has allowed me to examine beyond the tangible and begin to examine further into the human senses.  How every space has a smell, touch, sound, etc. and how those sensory moments begin to enlighten and remind the user through experience and memories.  The book also makes you enter a room in a different way.  It makes you notice the change in room dimensions.  It makes you aware of ground change.  All these experiences or phenomena are directly linked to physiological truths, unique and different in all of us.  All in all, this book is revolutionary!
