Elizan McLean: Blog Response 8

The Honan-Allston Public Library is layered in materials. Slate panels, stone blocks, wood panels, glass, and steel. Unlike most buildings that try to blend the use of different materials, making the transitions appear seamless, the Honan-Allston library accentuates the depth between each material. From my perspective, the depth of materials reflects both the essence and the most literal sense of a library. The essence being the depth of knowledge that you find in books on not just one facet of life but all walks of life. The depth is further backed by arguably the number one image of a library, which is the depth created from row after row of books.
