Nicholas Torres - Blog 6

I have used Between Silence and Light as inspiration for many of my designs. As one of my favorite architects, Louis Kahn has always inspired me by his use of philosophical ideals such as the unmeasurable & Measurable,  touch, order, light, and spirit. I found this book while at the William Stout Architectural Bookstore in San Francisco, and out of all the books there, I was set on this one. This book is inspiring as it is not just a list of his projects, but goes into detail about his personal thoughts on those matters in a straightforward way, and then goes on to describe how these ideals influenced his projects. I always use this book not as a source of direct precedents, but as a metaphorical inspiration for my architectural design, something I believe Louis Kahn was great at.
