The Northeastern College of Computer and Information Science Building has several interesting details. The building has an arbor on the exterior of the building that shades the buildings interior. The arbor is carried up the upper levels of the building by glass vertical fins that shade and still allow for views out. The expression of this connection is created because the verticality of the glass fins is like the flat screen of the computer monitor and the dense metal arbor is literally the computers hard drive. This is modeled after the mac mini is a portable hard drive that has slots to add memory as needed and thats why the arbor has spatial openings. The mac mini only needs a screen and its a modern idea to have use flat plate technology, thats how these two ideas are married in this architectural expression.
