Casey Delia-Blog 5

The MIT Chapel is a building I have visited numerous times over the course of the past few years, and still the concept and quality of light in this building astounds me. In the main chapel an oculus is cut out of the roof plane which creates a stunning beam of light down into the space and often directly on, or around the altar, even on a cloudy day. The hanging sculptural piece adds a shimmering affect that is quite astounding as well. When I first came across this building it instantly reminded me of the Pantheon in Rome and its oculus. Even though the Pantheon's offers an exposure to the outside air, the quality and essence of the light resemble that of the MIT Chapel, or should I say the chapel's resembles the Pantheon's.
