Detail in the techtonic connection of materials is key. I can't help but think of Frank Lloyd Wrights series of Usonian houses in terms of material connection. His simple planar vocabulary of horizontal wood planes and vertical masonry walls carry from larger facade elements to small details on the interior. He allows the masonry walls to act as the support while the lighter wood elements intersect and hover. These masonry walls pull out from the earth, and the lighter wood elements grow from them. A similar techtonic language is found in the structure of a tree nature.
