Book Cover with Big Dig Project (Sustainable Architecture)

Although it may seem rather cliché to choose this particular book, it nonetheless is one of the most influential architectural books that I constantly consider while designing. Heating, Cooling, and Lighting, by Norbert Lechner, breaks down they key guidelines to creating a successful sustainable design. Green Architecture has always been an interest of mine since my first real encounter with it in my earlier years of architecture. It is the reason I chose built environment for my concentration as well; my goal ultimately being to design a functional building that successfully incorporates its environment all while being energy efficient. Sustainability in architecture is the future for design and this books descriptive text along with diagrammatic examples proves that sustainable buildings can be both environmentally friendly as well as aesthetically pleasing. Some of the most inspiring buildings I have seen are in fact eco-friendly buildings; where functionality is reached through the playfulness of green materials and efficient, yet captivating systems.
