Nathan Neff Blog 6
I grew up interested in the ancient times, Medieval times, Ancient Greek Mythology, Roman, Asian, and other ancient areas that involved war and adventure. The books written about or influenced by these times always had these huge important buildings. Sometimes with these great carvings or designs. I decided I wanted to become an architect at the age of 12. A book I read when i was about 12 or 13 was The Sea of Trolls by Nancy Farmer. In the book the characters visited a huge variety of buildings. Villages to slums to royalty and then to ancient ruins. The view of the huge throne halls and castles is what I really was drawn to. This book inspired me to bring back something from those ancient structures, that were so important to many and known for many things, back into my designs. I want to use this influence to create a uniqueness to my designs, so the do not end up like the basic boxes you see around your hometown, but something unique and strong, catching almost every passing eye.
