Over the summer, I found this building at Pearl Street near Atlantic Avenue. It has a new glass construction in between two pre-existing brick buildings, and an interesting structural system inside. There are two large structural posts with angled supports that act as light carriers. From the light source at the center of the post, they carry light vertically through the building. The light from the posts that hit the ceiling is bounced back into the space from the glass roof. There are also pieces of clear string or wire that are held in tension from the ceiling to the ground. There is a light source at the top of these strings. Because they are clear, they carry light all the way down to the ground. Structure and light intertwine throughout this space.
